Townhalls 2023

Town Hall Series on DC School Planning Projects

Join the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education for a series of virtual town hall meetings to learn more about the Boundary & Student Assignment Study 2023 and the Master Facilities Plan 2023. These initiatives will provide strategic, data-informed recommendations to ensure more students have equitable access to great schools and modern, well-maintained facilities that meet their needs.

December Town Halls

Participants will review and provide feedback on the DCPS boundary and feeder scenarios and potential student assignment policy recommendations. Content at all three meetings will be the same.

Past Town Halls

Boundary & Student Assignment Study 2023

September 2023: During the second set of Boundary and Student Assignment Study town halls, participants reviewed the landscape of DCPS boundaries and student assignment analysis, provided feedback on potential policy tools, and received an introduction to the online web tool. Both town halls covered the same content. May 2023: During the first set of Boundary and Student Assignment Study town halls, participants heard an overview of the study process, goals, timeline, and provided feedback about guiding principles and challenges around clear student assignments to by-right schools and feeder pathways. Both town halls covered the same content. Find materials from both town halls below.


Master Facilities Plan (MFP) 2023

October 2023: During the final set of MFP town halls, participants reviewed updated programmatic capacities and draft recommendations supporting the three goals of the MFP; ensuring school facilities are efficiently utilized, ensuring every student is enrolled in a modern state of the art facility and, ensuring every student's daily experience is in a well-maintained facility.

July 2023: During the second set of MFP town halls, participants reviewed the state of the District’s public school facilities (modernization, maintenance, and utilization), discussed specific challenges and opportunities across the city, and provided feedback about potential strategies for the city’s long-term plan.

May 2023: During the first set of MFP town halls, participants heard an overview of the study process, schedule, and goals and provided feedback on the challenges the long-term plan needs to address, as well as learned about the landscape of public school facilities. Both town halls covered the same content.
