Coordinating Wealth-Building Resources within Neighborhoods

DME recently explored how the Office could coordinate wealth-building and income assistance programs across DC government for families living within Single Member District 8C07 (home of Simon ES and Hart MS), to support child development and educational outcomes.

This exploration was undertaken based on the belief that students attending neighborhood schools would have better short- and long-term outcomes if local government proactively connected families to income assistance and wealth-building programs. Despite the number of programs and resources already invested, this analysis found that gaps remain for households in the neighborhood, and identified opportunities for DME and DC government to:

1. Increase household stability;

2. Increase household personal savings and earnings potential;

3. Invest in households' personal capital.
