Mayor Bowser to Discuss Next Steps for Improving Education in Washington, DC

Monday, November 21, 2016

(Washington, DC) – On Tuesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser will discuss next steps for improving education in Washington, DC. In fiscal year 2017, the Bowser Administration made historic investments in education, investing an additional $220 million in the modernization of schools and increasing the Uniform Per-Student Funding Formula by two percent. DCPS has become the fastest improving urban school district, with increased enrollment and graduation rates and increased academic achievement. In the past year, the Bowser Administration significantly expanded learning opportunities by launching extended school year at 11 schools, creating a travel abroad program, and ensuring that all DCPS students have access to hands-on learning opportunities. At tomorrow’s press conference, Mayor Bowser will discuss how the District plans to build on this growth while working to close the achievement gap.
