(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Monday, December 11, at 10 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will highlight the achievements of public charter schools around the District as well as honor DC's highest-performing public charter schools. These schools were evaluated by the DC Public Charter School Board and the results were released in October 2017 in its “School Quality Report.” She will be joined at the event by At-Large Councilmember David Grosso, At-Large Councilmember Robert White, and State Board of Education Representative Markus Batchelor.
The School Quality Report (also known as the Performance Management Framework or PMF) scores each school between 0-100, placing the school in one of three performance tiers with Tier 1 schools being top-performing. The School Quality Report evaluates 118 public charter schools serving grades prekindergarten (PK) to 12 and adults on common factors including college and workforce preparation, English and math achievement and year-to-year growth, as well as school culture as measured by attendance and re-enrollment rates. Individual school reports are available at www.dcpcsb.org/schoolquality.
Recognized at this event will be 51 Tier 1 public charter schools. Additionally, six outstanding individuals will receive the Public Charter School Board’s TIERific Education Award.
As one of her top priorities to expand quality education opportunities for DC families, Mayor Bowser has awarded public facilities for public charter school use, created the Cross-Sector Collaboration Task Force to address key issues, and increased the public charter school facility allotment by 2.2 percent for the next four years.
