In 2023 and 2024, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education conducted a comprehensive review of the District’s public school student assignment policies and DCPS school boundaries. In March 2024, the DME released the final report that included recommendations made by the DC Advisory Committee on Student Assignment. In June 2024, the Mayor approved the Advisory Committee’s recommendations, which will act as the city’s roadmap for the next 10 years.  

The DME and DCPS have now released an Implementation Plan that outlines what steps will be taken to implement the recommendations made by the Advisory Committee. The Implementation Plan includes the key actions, timeline, and agency owner for each of the study’s recommendations. This Implementation Plan is a living document that will be periodically updated and revised based on progress, new developments, and feedback.
