The DC Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) provides resources and tools for all DC schools to create safe and positive school environments for all DC students, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Information is provided to help improve school safety and prevent school violence throughout all DC schools.
Revised Emergency Preparedness and Response Playbook
The District of Columbia School Emergency Preparedness and Response Playbook, Revised 2025 serves as an emergency planning and response guide and is based on the principles of the School Emergency Response Plan and Management Guide, the District Emergency Management Framework (DEMF), and the District Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). Thus, providing a framework for schools in the District of Columbia to create and update their emergency response plans.
Strengthening School Safety in Washington, DC
The School Safety Enhancement Committee, convened by DME between November 2023 and January 2024, was comprised of representatives and experts from city education and public safety agencies, the Council of the District of Columbia, and school communities and families. This group delivered a final report, Strengthening School Safety in Washington, DC to the Mayor and Council in March 2024.
