Student Assignment and School Boundaries Review Process 2013-2014

2013-2014 Overview

Since last October, an Advisory Committee of parents, community members, and other experts have been working with the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education to review student assignment policies, DCPS school boundaries, and feeder patterns. After a ten month process reviewing data, information, policies and practices as well as listening to parents and community members and discussing this input in depth, the Advisory Committee came to understand the challenges to the current student assignment system for the city and its families and developed recommendations for how to update and revise current student assignment policies, including DCPS school boundaries.   See below for the Committee’s final recommendations to Mayor Vincent C. Gray and the Mayor and Chancellor's approval of their recommendations. 

As follow-up to the work that the Advisory Committee did, DCPS has released an implementation plan that summarizes the changes for SY15-16 and provides an overview of the major milestones and timelines for implementing the recommendations ove the next few years. See below for the implementation plan and other relevant documents. 

Each DCPS school was provided with a letter and map for parents outlining the boundary changes for that school.  To see the boundary changes, by school, please click on the appropriate link below. The Washington Post has interactive maps that allow families to type in their address to view how the changes might impact their elementary, middle, and high school rights.
