Mayor Bowser Congratulates Four District Schools Recognized as 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools

Tuesday, September 19, 2023

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that four schools in the District of Columbia have been recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023 by the US Department of Education: Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, Our Lady of Victory School, Roots Public Charter School, and Washington Global Public Charter School. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

“I want to congratulate the educators, students, and families who give so much, every day, to make these schools fantastic places to not only learn as students, but to grow as young people,” said Mayor Bowser. “We have made schools and education a top priority in DC, and as we continue the work to ensure every student has a pathway to success and to ensure our city continues to be a place where the best teachers want to teach, we are always proud to celebrate the achievements of our schools.”

Now in its 40th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized over 9,700 schools for their academic achievements and excellence. Photographs and brief descriptions of the 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools are available at nationalblueribbonschools.ed.gov.
