Evelyn Boyd Simmons is a parent of two DCPS students. Her efforts to support local community schools prompted the founding of the ANC2F (Logan Circle) Education Committee, which she co-chairs, and influenced the Logan Circle Community Association (LCCA) to adopt education as a focus. The group has now expanded to the Logan, Dupont, Foggy Bottom Education Network.
Ms. Simmons, alongside other parent leaders, developed and presented to the Chancellor on recommendations for leveraging stronger community ties that create the kind of feeder system that parents would choose for their own child’s PS-12 education. She is a co-organizer of the “Little Goblin” Logan Circle neighborhood Halloween parade. For her work in the community, she was awarded the LCCA Community Service Award.
Ms. Simmons was elected by the DCPS Head Start Parent Policy Council to represent Ward 2 and has served in various school leadership roles, including Room Parent, PTA VP, LSAT community representative and a member of the SPED parent working group. Ms. Simmons has also coordinated and led the school fundraising and relationship-building efforts with local businesses. She served on the OSSE 2013 Parent Engagement Summit parent panel and on the 2014 Teacher of the Year selection panel.
Ms. Simmons worked for Africare, the US Senate, State Department and Fortune 500 corporations. She is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and a certified Partnership Broker and Parent Leadership Facilitator.
