Ms. DeFreitas-Kiros has been a DC resident her entire life and attended DC public schools growing-up. Her father’s career as a Special Education instructor inspired her to become a teacher herself, and has a B.A. in Elementary Education. She earned her bachelors at The University of the District of Columbia on a full tennis scholarship. She has been working with children since 1995. In college, she worked at several daycare centers. After graduating in 1999, she took a break and visited several schools in Ethiopia. She worked for DCPS from 2000-2003. During and after this time, she worked for a few aftercare and summer programs. Kamili decided to go back to Ethiopia to teach in 2004. Kamili is currently a Board of Trustees parent at Achievement Prep, and has three children attending ward 8 public schools.
