Wilma F. Bonner

Wilma F. Bonner is currently the Director of Teacher Education at Howard University. However, she has an extensive background that spanned thirty-seven years in the District of Columbia Public Schools. She served as principal of Woodrow Wilson SHS for ten years, School Without Walls SHS for three years, and Noyes Elementary School for two years. Dr. Bonner also served as the Assistant Superintendent of Senior High Schools and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction at DCPS. In her last position in DCPS as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Bonner supervised the adoption and implementation of new learning standards in reading, mathematics, social studies and science. She also chaired committees that developed the original curricula for McKinley Technology High School, the standards-based elementary report card, and the new promotion and graduation requirements which were approved by the District of Columbia Public Schools Board of Education in Spring 2007.

As Director of Teacher Education at Howard University, Dr. Bonner serves as the convener and facilitator of the Teacher Education Advisory Council (TEAC), comprised of representatives from each unit at the University responsible for teacher preparation. Dr. Bonner is also a member of the District of Columbia Board of Examiners which is charged with assessing the quality of institutions and organizations seeking state approval for District of Columbia licensure. Finally, she serves on the Mayors Commission for Women in the District of Columbia.
