Denise Forte

Denise Forte is the Vice President of Policy Leadership for Leadership for Educational Equity, a leadership development organization focused on developing its members’ leadership potential and inspiring members to become more civically engaged. Prior to this position, Forte served as the Acting Assistant Secretary for the Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development at the U.S. Department of Education providing strategic advice and counsel to Secretary Arne Duncan on all areas of education and budget policy for the Department. She also directed and managed multiple policy portfolios as the Deputy Assistant Secretary overseeing budget, higher education and early childhood education policy development and strategy in the same office from 2011 to 2013.

Before joining the Obama Administration, Forte spent 17 years on Capitol Hill where her last position was the Director of Education Policy for the House Committee on Education and Labor under the leadership of Congressman George Miller (CA), providing policy direction and strategy on numerous legislative initiatives including elementary and secondary education, child nutrition, national service and juvenile justice reform. Forte began her career on Capitol Hill as a Women’s Research and Education Institute Fellow in the Office of Congressman Bobby Scott (VA) and subsequently served in a number of progressively senior positions including Legislative Director. Ms. Forte’s resume also includes a career in the private sector where she worked for Unisys and Innovative Logistics Techniques in marketing and business development. Ms. Forte is married with two children and resides in Washington, DC.
